See moreMost failed patios fail underneath. Too little base rock, no compaction, no edge restraint. We build the base first, then the surface.
How we build
- Excavate to the right depth for your soil and material.
- Compact Class II base in layers.
- Screed the bedding, lay the field, cut the borders, lock the edges.
- Sweep in joint sand, compact again, wash it down.
Materials
- Concrete pavers. Widest colour range, easiest to repair one unit later.
- Flagstone and bluestone. Set tight, or spaced with gravel joints.
- Brick. Suits older Sonoma County homes.
- Decomposed granite and gravel. Affordable, permeable, good for large areas.

Questions
Do I need a permit?
An at grade patio usually does not. Walls and raised decks often do, and the rules differ by city. We check before we dig.
How long does it take?
A small landing takes a couple of days. A full backyard patio takes one to two weeks.
Will weeds grow through it?
Not through a properly built patio. Weeds start from seed landing in the joints, which is why the right joint sand matters.
Walls hold back soil and water, so they get built for both. Fences and gates get touched every day, which is where cheap work shows first.
Retaining walls
- Block and natural stone walls.
- Seat walls and raised planter walls.
- Drainage rock and pipe behind every wall, so water does not build up.
- Terracing to turn an unusable slope into flat, usable yard.
Fencing
- Good neighbour and board on board redwood.
- Horizontal slat fencing and privacy screens.
- Hog wire panels in redwood frames.
- Gates, including wide double gates, braced and hung on hardware sized for the leaf.

Questions
How tall can my fence be?
Six feet is typical for rear and side yards without a permit. Front yards are lower. Your city sets the exact numbers and we check them.
Do retaining walls need a permit?
Usually once they pass a certain height, and sooner if they carry a load above them. We tell you before we start.
Redwood or cedar?
Redwood. It is local, it handles our summers, and matching a repair years later is easy.
Plants that thrive here are not the ones on the front rack at the big box store. We pick for your exposure and your soil.
Planting
- Low water and California friendly shrubs, grasses and perennials.
- Ornamental and shade trees, planted at the right depth.
- Screening and foundation planting sized for what it will grow into.
- Bark mulch, rock or decomposed granite to finish the beds.
Lawn and turf
- Artificial turf where shade, dogs or the water bill make real grass a losing fight.
- Real lawn where kids need it, sized down to the part that gets used.
- Gravel and planted beds in place of lawn nobody walks on.

Questions
When is the best time to plant?
Fall and early winter. The rain does the establishment work for you. Summer planting works but needs more water.
Is artificial turf worth it?
For shaded yards, dog yards and small areas, usually yes. For a large open lawn the cost climbs fast. We will tell you honestly.
Will you keep what is already there?
Where it is worth keeping. We go through what stays, what gets cut back and what is finished at the walkthrough.
Two things quietly cost Sonoma County homeowners money. An irrigation system nobody has checked in years, and water with nowhere to go in January.
Irrigation
- Full system check. We run every zone and show you what we find.
- Broken heads, cracked lines and leaking valves repaired.
- Spray to drip conversions on planting beds.
- New drip installed with the planting, not squeezed in after.
- Controller programmed for the season, with the schedule written down.
Drainage
- French drains and trench drains where water sits.
- Downspout tie ins that carry roof water away from the foundation.
- Regrading and swales so the ground does the work.
- Permeable surfaces that let water soak in instead of running off.

Questions
My water bill jumped. Is it the irrigation?
Often yes. One cracked line underground can run for months without showing at the surface.
Can you fix someone else's system?
Yes. Most of what we repair is somebody else's work.
What does a check cost?
It is part of the free estimate when we are already out. If irrigation is all you need, call or text and we will tell you.
A yard you only see in daylight is a yard you use half the time. Lighting is the cheapest way to get the other half back.
What we install
- Path and step lights on walkways and stairs.
- Uplights on trees, walls and specimen plants.
- Wash and accent lighting on fences and hardscape.
- Low voltage transformers and timers, set and labelled.
How we run it
- Wire buried and routed before hardscape and planting go in wherever possible.
- Fixtures placed on site at night, so you see the effect before anything is fixed down.
- LED throughout, so the load stays low and the lamps last.

Questions
Can lighting be added to a finished yard?
Yes. It is more work to route the wire, but it is done all the time.
Does it need an electrician?
Low voltage lighting runs off a transformer plugged into an existing outdoor outlet. A new circuit is an electrician's job.
How much light is too much?
Most yards get over lit. A few well placed fixtures read better than a runway of path lights.
A yard that has got away from someone is not a lecture. It is a couple of days with the right equipment and a trailer.
One time work
- Overgrown weeds, grass and brush cut down and cleared.
- Winter pruning on shrubs, hedges and ornamental trees.
- Power washing on patios, walkways, driveways and fences.
- Old plants, dead lawn and yard junk hauled away.
- Property clean ups for a sale, a rental turnover or a walkthrough.
Ongoing maintenance
- Regular visits on a schedule that suits the property.
- Seasonal cut backs, bed weeding and mulch top ups.
- Irrigation adjusted through the year instead of one schedule for twelve months.

About Victor's Landscaping
Owned and run by Victor Guerrero. Commercial and residential landscaping across Sonoma County.
We build the whole yard with one crew. Hardscape, walls, fencing, irrigation, lighting and planting.
Doing it with one crew means the patio, the irrigation and the planting get designed around each other. Nobody comes back later to cut a trench through work that just went in.
We are not a franchise. Call or text (707) 812-2794 and you get Victor Guerrero. The people who price your job are the people who build it.
How we work
- We show up when we say we will.
- We clean up every day, not just at the end.
- If we open the ground and find something that changes the price, you hear it that day.
- We finish the last ten percent, which is the part everyone sees.
Where we work
Santa Rosa, Petaluma, Rohnert Park, Windsor, Sebastopol, Sonoma, Cotati, Healdsburg, Penngrove, Glen Ellen, Kenwood, Forestville and the rest of Sonoma County.
